"Covid-19 is awful, Climate change could be worse" - Bill Gates
Microsoft Founder and Billionaire Bill Gates recently predicted that the two biggest problems that the world will face soon will be bioweapons engineered by destructive people and Climate Change. On his blog 'Gates Notes' he wrote an extensive post on similar lines in August 2020. Read the full post here. Bill has always been vocal about 'Innovations' for reducing the Green House Gases Emission which is responsible for Global Warming and unpredictable climate change. His famous speech on 'Respiratory Virus' went viral after the Novel Coronavirus Pandemic started killing people last year. Many publicity seekers targeted Bill Gates for being aware of it well-before it struck, which lead to the infamous 'Bill Gates Coronavirus Conspiracy'. Gates poured more than $ 40 Billion in philanthropy and always keeps him updated with Global Problems. So it was obvious that he knows future dangers more than people who earn by their YouTube channels and Podcasts and defame famous people to seek cheap publicity. But as the saying goes - small Minds discuss people but Big minds always focus on Ideas. Bill didn't afraid to call spade a spade. He went ahead to share his concerns about Bioweapons and Climate Change.
As of 10th February 2021, a total of 23,49171 people died due to Covid-19 out of 107,389,998 cases. Due to Covid-19 tens of millions of people lost their jobs. Economies across the world suffered. Most of the healthcare system collapsed. The vulnerability of the Countries who considered themselves developed got exposed. Humanity suffered a lot due to the novel Coronavirus pandemic. Bill Gates predicts that till 2100, similar kinds of devastation will happen due to Climate Change. We do not focus on things that are too far from the present. That makes the Climate Change problem more dangerous. Gates expects that after 2060, Climate change-related problems will cause huge migration from regions of agriculture will suffer due to unpredictable reasons. Food Security will become the biggest problem in the countries near the equator as those will be the hottest places on the earth due to global warming. Glaciers that give water to rivers in the summer season won't be sufficient to quench the thirst of a huge population. Not only food but also drinking water will become expensive.
The rise in global temperature will bring more new diseases. Malnutrition will increase. Economies will slow down. We witnessed how lockdowns during the Pandemic affected many households living on daily wages. Climate Change will bring such days on regular basis. During the Covid related lockdown, an 8% reduction in Green houses gases emission was seen. But this reduction was not a planned attempt to reduce the GHGs. Coronavirus forced people to stay at home, companies to keep shut. This decreased the activities that emit the GHGs. Unfortunately, such consistent drops in rate are not possible on normal days. So, we can assume that Green House Gases will only keep increasing in the absence of cautious efforts by countries who responsible for it. Bill Gates predicts that due to increasing global warming 87 people per 1 lac will die by the end of this century. Gates believes that Biowarfare will increase the non-livable places on the earth. Engineered viruses in the labs will kill more people than the ongoing Coronavirus. It took only one year to create a vaccine for the Novel Coronavirus. We may not be as fortunate as now in the future.
Rich countries have the resources to fight and come out of such a situation. Poor countries will suffer the most. A huge population of Have Nots from third world countries will get directly affected by Global warming. There is no easy and fast solution to Climate Change. It is important to Start now. Bill Gates suggests that all the countries in this world should work together to fight climate change. Curbing carbon emissions in the atmosphere is very costly. It should be stopped at the source only. Electrical Vehicles, Renewable Energy, Clean and Green practices in Agriculture and Industries, alternate for meat, innovative technologies and policies to ensure Zero Emissions are some of the solutions.
